Changaroth Grama Panchayat is a village panchayat in Changaroth and Paleri Village limits, in the Perambra Block of Koyilandy Taluk, Kozhikode District. The panchayat, with an area of 30.24 square kilometers, is bordered by Maruthonkara and Kuttiyadi panchayats to the north, Maruthonkara and Chakkittapara panchayats to the east, Perambra, Velam, and Kuttiyadi panchayats to the west, and Koothali and Perambra panchayats to the south. The panchayat was formed on February 5, 1962. M. Abdullakutty Moulavi, the first citizen, assumed office on December 16, 1963. The advent of Kuttiyadi Bridge, Kuttiyadi Irrigation Project, and Malabar Development began to change the face of the panchayat. Kooniyode in this area has been a center of human habitation since ancient times. Kooniyode, which maintained trade relations with the commercial town of Vatakara by boat, can be described as the port of Changaroth. Koothali Estate struggle and Muthukad struggle are the main struggles that took place in this area. The Onakkali (Onam play) and Pulikkali (Tiger play) held in connection with the Kooniyode Bhagavathi Temple festival have great similarities with the celebrations held at Kollam Pisharikavu in Koyilandy. Merchants who migrated from the Kollam region became the merchants of Kooniyode.
