History of Grama Panchayat

Name Origin: The name Changaroth is believed to be a linguistic evolution from Shankarapuram, supported by the rule of Anunasikathiprasaram from Keralapanineeyam and the historical presence of eighteen Shiva temples. Feudal Rule: The region was part of Payyormala Nadu, ruled by the independent Payyormala Nairs (Paleri, Avaniyad, Koothali). Their allegiance to the Kurumbranad and Zamorin rulers was only nominal. Pazhassi Raja: The Avaniyad Nairs provided refuge to Pazhassi Raja when he was in exile from the British. Koothali Estate: Land was primarily held by a few major landlords. Due to the extinction of heirs under the Marumakkathayam (matrilineal) system, the government took over the Koothali land in 1936 under the Attaladukka rule, forming the Koothali Estate.
